Today’s project is one where the name is simply so deceiving–it’s called the Impossible Card but truthfully it’s so impossibly simple to do! Usually, my love of crafting resonates strongly with my daughter but this card was way more in my son’s wheelhouse this time around. This design is based on a popular magic trick called the Hypercard Illusion trick and is one he himself has done (but it didn’t look as pretty!) Today I’m going to show you how simple it is to do so you can create your own.
First off, you can create this card in any size you want–whether you want to do the standard A2 Card ( 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″) or an A7 Card (5″ x 7″) there’s an easy formula to follow. (My card is an A2 size.)
STEP 1:
Cut your cardstock or patterned paper to your desired card size (i.e. for an A2 I cut my patterned paper to 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″.) Then you’ll want to score the width in half (so for an A2 card, it’ll be at 2-1/8″.) Follow that score by cutting midway along the length to that first score line (mine is at 2-3/4″ for an A2 card.) Finish it off by cutting 1″ from both sides to the center score line.
Here is what it looks like with a patterned piece of Documented paper.
STEP 2:
Holding onto one of the 1″ pieces, rotate your paper so that the top of the backside of the patterned paper is flush with the bottom edge of the front paper. Use a Bone Folder to make a crisp fold along the fold.
STEP 3:
Repeat Step 2 with the other half of the card base.
STEP 4:
You now have the base of your card all created (pretty easy, right?!?) Now all that is left to do is to decorate and embellish your card as desired.
My Impossible Card is created using Close To My Heart’s Documented Collection (the Documented Paper Collection as well as the Documented Cardmaking Stamp Set & Thin Cuts) along with this month’s Stamp of the Month–For the Love of Crafting.
