Did you know that the third Sunday of July is National Ice Cream Day? Yep, that was yesterday! Did you celebrate? I not only celebrated with ice cream with my kids, but also played with this awesome Carnival Fun Stamp Set from Close To My Heart, along with the coordinating Carnival Fun Thin Cuts dies, to create this darling card.
Not only does talking about National Ice Cream Day allow me to share this adorable stamp set, but it also gives me the chance to showcase a super cool trick you can do with this particular set of Thin Cuts that you might not have thought to do before.
Now I know there are some of you out there who are saying, “Yes, this stamp set is cute, but really when will I need to have dies to cut out these images?”
Well, let’s take a look at the ice cream cone for a minute. How proficient are you at creating even dovetail cuts to create a pennant/banner piece? This ice cream cone die will help you create not one, but two dovetail cuts! Yep, it’s true!
First, you have a more traditional dovetail cut by using one of the top cone corners. Align it so that it meets up with the two corners of your piece of paper. When you run it through your die cutting machine, you will get a nice dovetail.
Next, is a more unconventional dovetail cut as it’s a little wavy–it’s the one I used for my ice cream cone card.
Just follow the same process as before only using the base of the cone as your guide.
Are you amazed? I always love it when I can use my tools for multiple uses. It feels like you get more value, right?
Okay, back to the card…I did basic tone-on-tone stamping for the ice cream scoops. I used colors perfect for summer–Pear (retiring!), Sorbet and Cotton Candy (retiring!)
Then to get some dimension (aside from all the layers I added to the card) I used a mix of Thin 3-D Foam Tape and regular 3-D Foam Tape (love, love, love that we have the two thicknesses of this tape now!)
Be sure to mark your calendar for July 16, 2017 (3rd Sunday of July) so that you can celebrate next year’s National Ice Cream Day by enjoying your own yummy ice cream!
