This weekend has been all about getting the kids Valentine’s ready for their class party. Valentine’s Day is such a great opportunity for some do-it-yourself projects. It’s so much more meaningful and full of love when you can make something yourself–which is what Valentine’s Day is all about, right?
This year I brought back a couple of popular ideas that I’ve shared before. First, the recycled crayon idea (you can find my original how-to post HERE):
Then I did a new take on my previous Valentine’s Lollipop idea (original how-to post can be found HERE):
This time around instead of using 2 mini candy canes, I tried one regular size one in a more fun, flirty color combo (these were some Willy Wonka Candy Canes from after-Christmas markdowns!) I will admit it wasn’t as easy or as consistent to use one candy cane to form a heart, but I do really like the results. And the kids loved doing all the sprinkles!
This is a super cute idea from my friend Kjirsten. She dropped these festive marshmallows treats by today and oh my goodness am I going to have to run with this idea sometime soon! So darn cute and so simple to execute.
A few weeks back as we prepared the outside of our Valentine’s Cards, we tried out some potato and apple stamping! As a stamper, I was completely feeling out of my element in having to “create” my own stamps, but it turned out really fun. And using apples is an added fun technique because it leaves a little star in the middle of your image from the core!
My final idea for you today is an adaptation of a project my kids did in preschool at Christmas time. Cinnamon Ornaments are simple to make and smell oh-so-delicious (if you like the smell of cinnamon that is!) They are easy enough to make and can be as simple as making the dough, cutting it with cookie cutters, letting it dry and then stringing some ribbon through it OR you can get more elaborate as I tested out here.
I painted the two end hearts with some re-inker and Create-a-Shade Pearl Paint on the two end hearts, plus I stamped the middle heart with CTMH’s *NEW* Love Clusters Stamp Set and then spritzed it with the same re-inker and Pearl Paint using our Spray Pen. I finished it all off with a few buttons from our Pink Assortment Buttons along with our *NEW* Color-Ready Seam Binding Ribbon.
And in case you’d like to make some Cinnamon Ornaments yourself, here is the recipe I used:
- 1-1/2 C. Cinnamon
- 1 C. Applesauce
- 1/4 C. Elmer’s School Glue
Just mix like you would other dough, roll it out and cut in shapes with cookie cutters. Don’t forget to poke a hole with a straw for ribbon! Let air dry for several days turning them over occasionally.
And there you have it…several DIY Valentine’s ideas. I hope I’ve inspired you a bit. If you liked any of the ideas, feel free to share them with your friends through Facebook, Pinterest or whatnot.
