How would you like to make your very own darling May Day Basket? Well, you’re in luck because today, I have a step-by-step tutorial for you to create one! Let’s get started…
Supplies
First, we need to gather the supplies. For a small basket (about 3-1/2″ tall and 2-1/4″ wide), you’ll need:
- (1) 1/2″ x 7-1/4″ cardstock strip
- (4) 3/4″ x 5-1/2″ cardstock strips
- (1) 1/2″ x 5-1/2″ cardstock strip
- (1) 1-1/4″ cardstock circle
Preparation
For added depth, you can emboss your 4 strips and even sponge the edges.
Next, you’ll want to prep your basket band (the 7-1/4″ strip) by using really strong adhesive like CTMH’s Base & Bling Adhesive Strips.
Step 1:
With the pattern you wish to be showing on your basket face down, adhere it to the adhesive strip so that both the top and side edges are flush. Repeat process with additional 3 embossed strips, keeping them flush to the top and sides.
Step 2:
With your first strip, bend it so that you are able to affix the bottom edge to the adhesive strip so that it is flush to the top and flush to the strip next to it. The pattern you wish to be showing on your basket should still be facing outward. You’ll repeat this same process with the 2nd, 3rd and then 4th strip.
Step 3:
Your strips will be a little wonky and will need a little manipulation to create a more even basket shape. Once you’ve done this you can adhere the remaining adhesive strip to complete the basket base.
Step 4:
With this smaller sized basket, it helps to place a circle on the base to help stabilize it.
Step 5:
Using Glue Dots, adhere remaining strip to the inside of the basket to create a handle.
Now you can decorate it as you desire.
Bigger Baskets
Want to create a larger sized basket? Here are the measurements for one that is about 5-1/2″ tall and 3-1/2″ wide:
- (1) 1″ x 12″ cardstock strip
- (4) 1-1/4″ x 8-1/4″ cardstock strips
- (1) 1″ x 8-1/4″ cardstock strip
- no circle base is necessary, but you can add one if you prefer
Enjoy your wonderful May Day Baskets (or save this idea and create Easter baskets, baskets with flowers or strawberries–you’re only limited by your creativity!)
