Punch Animals

I’m an addict. That’s right, I admit it. I absolutely love, love, LOVE punches! And even though I completely realize that they are heavy, bulky and not easy to store, I still find that I need more (that’s right, I said need! LOL). So in honor of my sad addiction, I thought I’d share a fun project you can make with some common punches in the event you are just as addicted as I am 🙂

So let’s meet our Cast of Characters:

  • Scallop Circle Punch (mine measures 1-3/4″)
  • Photo Corner Punch
  • 1/2″ Circle Punch
  • 1/4″ Circle Punch

STEP 1: Punch 2 scallop circles for each animal you plan to make (I’m making a bunch of spiders for our Preschool Halloween Party tomorrow so that is why you see a ton!)

STEP 2: Punch 2 white 1/2″ circles for each animal and 2 black 1/4″ circles–these become the eyes when you glue the black circles to the white ones. And no need to be a perfectionist on this step; just stick ’em on there. Irregular placement gives ’em character (or so I tell myself!)

STEP 3: Adhere 2 eyes to each scallop circle.

STEP 4: Punch out 2 Photo Corners. These become our spider legs. Just put a small dab of adhesive on one end of the photo corner and glue to the body (aka scallop circle). Repeat on other side.

STEP 5: Using double sided tape or tape style adhesive (I have been using liquid adhesive up to this point) put a small amount in the center of an undecorated scallop circle. Attach candy to the adhesive. Generally I use York Peppermint Patties as these are a nice size and flatter, but since these will be for Preschoolers (and luckily there are no peanut allergies) I’m using Reese’s PB Cups.

STEP 6: Place adhesive in center of decorated scallop circle and affix to the top of your candy to make a complete “punch animal”.

For a fun variety I used purple, orange and black legs for my spiders.

And these ‘lil cuties have endless possibilities. I’ve also done Reindeer (Rudolph using some fun red bling) and a turkey for Thanksgiving. Or you can simplify it a bit and just decorate or stamp the exterior scallop circles. You can even attach a ribbon connected to both scallops to create a fun and edible ornament!

Are these fun or what??!?!?
