Happy Teacher Appreciation!

Teacher Appreciation Calla Lily Card

Teacher Appreciation Calla Lily Card

Happy Teacher Appreciation Day & Week!   This year our school’s Teacher Appreciation Committee chose to do a garden theme for the week’s festivities.  So in keeping with that, I decided to do a Calla Lily Card with the students.

I punched out enough white cardstock circles for each student to write an adjective they thought best described our teacher.  I did a tri-fold with each to create a calla lily shape and glued them down onto a Juniper Cardstock card base with a Glue Dot so that each could still be opened.  I drew in some stems using  our ShinHan Sap Green Alcohol Marker where they could be seen and then attached a bow using CTMH’s Thistle Extra Thick Twine (I untwisted the twine to get a softer look to the bow before I affixed it using a Glue Dot.)

A No-Sew Dr. Seuss Horton Costume

Closeup of Horton Costume

Horton

Recently, my kids’ class put on a production of Seussical Jr.  They did an AMAZING job.  It was impressive to see how the kids not only learned their own lines and songs, but those of the other characters, too!

Step one was deciding if they wanted to try out for one of the roles or to be part of the set design and/or creating the costumes.  My son wanted to be Horton and my daughter wanted to be Mrs. Mayor.  So they both did their tryouts and were selected for their chosen roles…yay!

Step two was deciding if they wanted the costume crew to create their costumes for them or if they wanted to do them on their own.  They chose the latter.  Now it was time to put on my thinking cap for the Horton costume.  I felt doing Mrs. Mayor would be simple enough–just some bright clothes and a sash saying Mrs. Mayor would suffice.

Spring Critters Easter Baskets

Happy Easter!  Before the day was over, I wanted to share the cute little Easter baskets I made for my kids this year.  They are a twist on one I’ve created before but they turned out so super cute with this year’s *NEW* Spring Critters Stamp Set and coordinating Thin Cuts dies.

Look at how easy it is to get a nice image with the coordinating die for this stamp set–I’m so in love with these sets and can’t wait to see what new ones CTMH releases in their May Seasonal Expressions 2!

Stuck on You Gift Card Holder

Today’s share is a unique twist on a Gift Card Holder.  I used a brown lunch bag!  I cut it at 3″ keeping the base folded up to create my pocket.

Instead of adhering the sides closed to create the pocket, I simply made a belly band that I secured to the back of the bag.

DIY Peppermint Bowl or Platter

Peppermint Platter with Fudge

Peppermint Platter

About a week and a half ago I happened to see a small chunk of a holiday DIY segment on a morning show.  They were talking about making a festive and easy Peppermint Bowl out of Starlight Mints.  I was intrigued!

I was just killing a little bit of time when I saw it so didn’t really have plans of making one.  However, we had a holiday party to attend this past weekend and I thought it would be fun to give it a try–only instead of doing a bowl, I wanted to try a raised platter.

It was really simple to do and my family was extremely impressed with the results!  So here is a little quick tutorial so you, too, can impress your friends and family!

STEP 1:

Peppermint bowl supplies

Gather the supplies (Starlight Mints and a candlestick–both can be purchased at your local Dollar Store–bonus!!)  You’ll also need Parchment Paper, a Cookie Sheet and a hot glue gun.

How to Create Dixie Cup Party Lights

Dixie Cup Party Lights

Dixie Cup Party Lights

If you stopped by our Close To My Heart Scrapbook Expo booth in Santa Clara, CA this past August, you would have seen these Dixie Cup Party Lights I made and strung across our booth.  I had every intention of posting instructions (they are really quite simple!) shortly after the event, but life somehow always gets in the way! But I decided it’s better late than never, right?!

Teacher Just a Note Notebook

Teacher Just a Note Notebook

Today was the first day of school for my kids.  I wanted to create a little something for the teachers so I went with something useful.  I stamped up little notebooks for them to use throughout the year.  I did get a little grief from a friend who works at a school about my use of apples. Apparently, teachers get tired of all the apple-themed gifts.  Who knew?  I guess I can understand as I think more about it though.  Hopefully the teachers weren’t like, “oh no, more apples!” =)

Crayon Bouquet

This darling Crayon Bouquet is something I wanted to share since last spring–and the timing seems perfect with the start of school!
