Playing with watercolor paints is awesome–it’s like you can’t mess it up! Need a little more color, add it. Need less color, add some water. Plus, there are fun techniques you can do with the paints. The one I’ve done here–a Salt Watercolor Technique–uses Kosher salt. It’s super simple and just requires a little patience (or a craft heater works, too!)
Basically, you want to begin with Watercolor Paper. I believe CTMH’s is amazing–it’s nice and smooth and doesn’t pill up; others I’ve used always have a texture to it and there’s a “right” side to use. Not true with CTMH’s–either side works!
Start by getting your paper completely wet. Then do your painting–quickly as you want your piece to still have a lot of wetness to it. Then sprinkle some Kosher salt onto it and you’ll notice it will begin absorbing the moisture on the paper. Either leave it alone to dry on it’s own or if you want something a little more instant, take your Craft Heater and dry it. You’ll then rub off the excess salt and find a super cool design left behind.
I felt this would be the perfect technique for a space-themed card. Close To My Heart’s *NEW* To the Moon Stamp Set is an adorable Valentine’s themed set–and who can resist cute Valentine’s stamp sets?!?!
